Objectives

The student will:

1. Describe the injection sites for subcutaneous (SC) and intradermal (ID) injections
2. Describe SC and ID injection technique
3. Understand the common SC medications: Insulin, Heparin
4. Explain the steps to prepare for SC injections for: insulin pen, mixing insulin, heparin
5. Explain insulin induced hypertrophic lipodystrophy
6. Create a diabetic teaching plan
7. Demonstrate the ability to link medication to patient’s diagnosis and pathophysiology
8. Demonstrate the ability to calculate drug dosages accurately
