9 Emergencies

If you witness or are subjected to harassment, threats or violent behaviour

Follow the appropriate steps for the situation:

  • If it’s an emergency, contact Protection Services at 613-562-5411 or via MS Teams chat at Protection uOttawa LPR (r-lpr110emerg-tmssd@uottawa.ca).
  • If you’re a victim of discrimination, harassment or sexual violence, visit the Human Rights Office website for information on how to report it.
  • Report any violent or threatening acts or behaviour immediately to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, even if you think you can handle the situation yourself. The Dean can advise you on the appropriate steps for the situation.

Hold and secure, lockdown, shelter-in-place, evacuation or hazard-specific situations

In the event of a situation affecting the safety of the campus community, the University has implemented a mass notification system including uoAlert, screen alerts with Alertus, and social media. uoAlert will be activated only in major situations, such as a critical violent event, a serious fire, a serious hazardous material spill, or severe weather. Please refer to this webpage to know how to proceed in the different situations.
