My 4 Values as a Nurse

Compassion – Compassion is important to me because it involves understanding and empathizing with someone based on their emotions or experiences. Nurses have to create a sense of safety and trust which can help with building relationships.

Integrity – Integrity is a significant value to me because having integrity means maintaining honesty, accountability, and strong moral principles in all aspects of nursing practice. Having Integrity means being truthful no matter what situation occurs and doing this can help build credibility.

Empathy – Empathy is important to me because it allows you to genuinely connect and understand other perspectives. Empathy means putting yourself in other people’s shoes allowing you to understand them on a more emotional level and psychological concerns. I think this is a very important value to me because as I am transitioning into the nursing field I think that it is important to have this value as it will help me when wanting to foster a deeper nurse-patient relationship.

Resilience – Resilience is also a crucial value to me as I think that to be successful in life you have to have a good amount of resilience. Times get harder no matter what and it’s good to be resilient during these times. As a value, I think this will very much carry well in the future with nursing.
