How did you respond to reference letter requests from students?

ES: I flagged the fact that I’m an instructor, and not a full professor, as most grad school programs prefer reference letters from full professors. However, if the student was fine with that, I wrote the letter. Be sure to ask the student what they would like you to include in their letter, and if there is any relevant information about their program.

EG: Agreed. In one instance, I also reached out to the student’s TA so I could include details about tutorial participation in the letter (e.g.: “This student’s TA reports that…”).
