How did you structure your application letter(s)? What information did you include?

ES: Well, to begin, my application letter was two pages long.

EG: So was mine.

ES: And I included five sections.

  • 1 paragraph on why I am most qualified to teach this course
  • 1+ paragraphs on why I want to teach this course
  • 1 paragraph on my planned approach to teaching this course
  • 2+ paragraph expanded discussion of relevant experience and qualification
  • 2+ paragraph overview of my planned pedagogical approach

EG: I broke mine down by paragraph into eight sections.

  • 1 paragraph introduction
  • 1 paragraph overview of research areas and expertise (including comps, past and ongoing research projects, etc.)
  • 2 paragraphs on teaching experience, relevant admin roles that have augmented my teaching experience, and my understanding of the course’s learning objectives
  • 1 paragraph on my anticipated approach to remote learning
  • 1 paragraph overview of my teaching philosophy
  • 1 paragraph on the values and approaches I will bring to work with TAs
  • 1 paragraph closing summary
