Success Portfolio (due Friday 4 April)

The Success Portfolio is a non-disposable capstone assignment that allows you to reflect on your learning, showcase your growth, and articulate your understanding of academic success. Think of it as a personalized highlight reel of your semester’s journey. As such, you are advised to continuously work on this assignment throughout the semester.

The Success Portfolio is self-graded, meaning the grade you give yourself will be the grade you receive for this evaluation. To earn that grade, you must submit:

  1. The completed Success Portfolio.
  2. Your self-assigned grade.
  3. Evidence for your grade (i.e., a completed Rubric).

Students whose grade and submitted work display large discrepancies will be asked to meet with Lindsay before any grade is finalized.

Opt-In Requirement

You must opt-in to this assignment no later than Friday 24 January. To opt-in, you must:

  1. Submit your secret URL in Brightspace.
  2. Have used the appropriate cuPortfolio Template.
  3. Complete your ‘About Me’ page in cuPortfolio.

***only cuPortfolio assignments will be accepted (see the instructions for accessing cuPortfolio at no cost).

How to Succeed

  1. Define Success:
    • Start your portfolio with a personal definition of academic success, explaining how it aligns with your goals.
  2. Curate Evidence:
    • Include 3–5 artifacts from the course (e.g., assignments, reflections, notes, or other coursework) that demonstrate your progress toward academic success.
  3. Analyze Your Strategies:
    • Reflect on the metacognitive strategies you used (e.g., self-quizzing, concept mapping, peer feedback) and analyze how they supported your learning.
  4. Reflect on Your Journey:
    • Write a thoughtful reflection discussing how the course influenced your growth, what you learned about yourself, and how you plan to apply these insights in the future.
  5. Design Your Portfolio:
    • Use the cuPortfolio platform to create a visually appealing and organized presentation of your work. Be sure to follow APA guidelines and include an AI Statement.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submit your completed Success Portfolio through Brightspace by providing a link to your secret URL.
  • Include your self-evaluation, using the rubric provided in Brightspace.
  • Label your self-evaluation file: “SuccessPortfolioEval_LastName_FirstName.”

Tips for Success

  • Start Early: Begin gathering artifacts and reflecting on your learning throughout the semester.
  • Focus on Quality: Prioritize depth and thoughtfulness over quantity in your reflections and artifacts.
  • Use the Rubric: The rubric in Brightspace outlines exactly how your portfolio will be evaluated. Use it as a checklist to guide your work.
  • Leverage Examples: Check out sample portfolios in Brightspace for inspiration.
