Module 7: Understanding Confidentiality and Relevant Policies on Campus
Survivors often fear telling another campus community member about their experiences of sexual violence – both because they are unsure about what might happen with their information once it’s ‘out’, and because they understandably worry they might lose control of any next steps or actions taken.
Three important way we can help address these fears is by:
- Knowing who has specific limits to confidentiality on campus,
- Knowing what those limits to confidentiality are (i.e.: what information can be kept confidential and when must information be shared): and
- Clearly communicating our own limits to confidentiality upfront.
