Theatre Program Policies and Course Delivery

THEATRE PROGRAM POLICIES

By accepting a place in this program, students agree to abide by the rules of professionalism and studio discipline, including the Policies detailed below:

Attendance Policy:

Attendance at all classes is mandatory.

  • Professional standards in performance allow little room for lateness or absence.
  • Our discipline is integrally linked to showing up on time, every time, and being ready to work. Responsibility for attendance is yours.

Your record is a profile of your discipline, attitude and commitment to the training. You can learn as much from the work of your classmates as you can from your own efforts and vise-versa. Feedback and critiquing and the resulting discussions are essential to the educational value of this program, and these require your attendance and your full participation.

If a student misses a class wherein they are expected to present a performance, missing the class may result in a 0% mark for that performance, unless it is cleared by the professor, and only under exceptional circumstances.

Rehearsal Policy:

It is expected that students will make themselves available to rehearse outside of class time, either by themselves or with their acting partners.

  • A busy schedule cannot be used as an excuse not to meet with a scene partner.
  • Theatre is a collaborative art form, and by undertaking theatre training, you are acknowledging that you will work regularly and consistently in a group environment.

Deadline Policy:

Professionalism in the performing arts demands reliability.

  • Assignments must be turned in to the instructor in class on or before the date due. Late assignments, unless cleared by the instructor under exceptional circumstances, will receive a 0% grade.

Bullying and Harassment:

  • The College and the Program take bullying, harassment, and intimidation in all its forms very seriously, and we have zero tolerance for such behaviour in our classes, in our outside rehearsals, or anywhere else in our community.
  • You bear responsibility for the safety of ALL the members of your ensemble, including yourself.
  • Incidents of bullying or harassment will be reported to the College for immediate disciplinary action, which can include removal from classes, the program, and/or the College.

NOTE: Theatre Centennial College is a BringIT program.  All students must have their own laptop computer:

  • Either macOS or Windows OS
  • Video Camera
  • Microphone
  • Speakers or cordless earphones
  • Minimum Required Software: ZOOM, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc…)
  • Ability to do minimal video or audio editing (example iMovie, Garageband, etc…)

Fall 2024 Delivery Modality

The Theatre Program at Centennial College relies on in-person learning.  Active presence in all classes is mandatory.  If a class has to be re-scheduled online, ZOOM will be the default online platform, unless otherwise specified by your professor.  Please note that THEA 320 (Semester 3), is currently delivered as a hybrid course (2 hours face-to-face & 1 hr online).

eCentennial

All courses at Centennial have an online learning environment on eCentennial, the College’s learning management system.  Through eCentennial you can access course documentation and class assignments, monitor grades, and actively communicate and collaborate with professors and other students.  Online courses and online components of hybrid courses will be delivered through eCentennial.  You may need to write online tests and submit assignments via eCentennial.  Your professor will discuss their use of eCentennial in each of your courses.
