Program Learning Resources and Facilities
Labs
There may be limited access to Centennial’s computers and specialty labs. For your health and safety, follow any posted protocols (e.g., physical distancing, cleaning, etc.).
Equipment
Graphic Design students are required to provide their own laptop (MacBook Pro is preferred). An external hard drive for backup purposes is strongly recommended. Also, sketchbooks / notebooks will be needed for project development work.
Software
Graphic Design students are required to subscribe to the industry-leading Adobe Creative Cloud software. This is a monthly subscription. Check the Adobe website for pricing.
Please refer to the “Technology Requirements” tab on your program webpage.
Library Collections
Centennial’s library has many resources for the Graphic Design program. Please check the Library Guide for the collection specific to our program. You will be prompted to log in to access the library’s resources.
Students can access Linked in Learning through our program guide. This is a terrific resource, with many how-to videos related to the software we use. LinkedIn Learning can also be accessed directly through the Library > E-Resources site, or through various links embedded in the course shells.
Two of our program’s textbooks can be found on the Library site. The typography text book, Thinking with Type, can be read online or downloaded for 21 days at a time. Individual chapters can be downloaded as well, with no time limit.
The GMD 104 Photography book can also be accessed though the library – The PhotoEd Guide to Photography, 3rd edition. Find it here.
Instructors may make course readings available online through the eReserves service in Centennial Luminate or as physical items that can be borrowed from a campus library on short-term loan. If your instructor is using eReserves, you will see a module in the course content on Luminate. The list may include links to library resources like databases, articles, and eBooks; book chapters; web links; and open educational resources. Check your course outline or contact your instructor for information about where your assigned course readings are located.
