Experiential Learning Requirements

Experiential Learning “supports students in gaining hands-on learning that helps them transition to employment”[1]. Experiential Learning can take the form of co-operative education, degree work placement, clinical/field placement, fieldwork/simulation labs, capstone/applied research projects, and service learning.

In their final semester, Graphic Design students must complete an unpaid eight-week field placement in a design studio / ad agency, or other relevant workplace that offers appropriate work experience and mentorship. The student will be assessed by their placement host as well as by self-reflective reports, submitted at regular intervals. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C in order to graduate.

Field placements may be completed on-site or remotely, depending on the needs of the placement host. Wherever possible, students are encouraged to work on-site for the best possible experience in a real-world working situation.

Fall 2023 Update:

While the College does not require COVID-19 vaccination, students are required to follow the policies in place at work-term/placement sites. This means that you may be required to provide proof of vaccination to your employer/placement host in order to participate in and complete your work term/placement.
