The authors of this open educational resource (OER) have various levels of experience designing, developing, and engaging in virtual gaming simulations (also known as virtual simulations). The goal of writing this OER was to create an open access resource for students and educators on key strategies that facilitate collaboration. We hope sharing our experiences will facilitate your journey in designing your own virtual simulations.

This OER discusses how to collaborate with students when co-creating virtual simulations. The various stages throughout the developmental process are described and strategies identified of how to get students involved throughout each stage. The OER highlights resources available at Centennial College, and how to search for similar resources at your institution. Various examples are shared by the OER authors about their experiences developing virtual simulations, as well as external experts and students.

The aim of the OER was to assist readers during their development process when designing their own virtual simulation in collaboration with students and faculty. By being part of various virtual simulation design teams, we hope our shared experiences will help you to achieve your simulation goals.
