In the vibrant landscape of the Francophone postsecondary community, knowledge is power. This community, while small in numbers, is undoubtedly mighty and engaged. To ensure the success of our initiatives, engaging administrators is a crucial step. These individuals possess the key to unlocking doors within their respective departments and hold the credibility needed to share the opportunities we provide. The process of reaching out to them, which may initially seem like cold calling, is transformed into a more personal interaction built on trust. Furthermore, striving for institutional collaboration is of paramount importance. By establishing partnerships at the institutional level, we create a robust rapport with educators that can facilitate the growth of our community. To enhance the precision of our efforts, consulting with stakeholders is an essential component. An environmental scan helps identify gaps, but it is the collective wisdom of our community members that narrows down the range, topics, and formats for resources that are truly useful and applicable in the dynamic teaching and learning environment of the Francophone post-secondary community.
As a way to gauge the response of the community, we have set in place pre-sprint and surveys to:
- See the community’s level of familiarity with Open Education, eCampusOntario’s French initiatives, and Open Educational Resources;
- Source interest in the topics, formats, and types of resources that members of the education community are most interested in creating and using;
- Gain an understanding of the current use and challenges members of the education community face with use, adoption, and remixing OER.
We also created a post-sprint survey to understand the community’s experiences and takeaways from participating to:
- Adapt the sprint format to better match the participants’ creative process;
- Improve the sprint experience for participants, as well as the quality of deliverables;
- Gain insight into the type of resources that educators see as most useful to use and support their students, colleagues, and the education community
- Source opinions of eCampusOntario’s Open Library and Francophone initiatives
