2 Basic Terminology

Fundamental Terminologies of SolidWorks:

▪ Part – 3D Shape Designed & Defined by User
▪ Assembly – Parts Assembled Together Through Constraints Created by User
▪ Drawing – Engineering Drawing of Individual Parts or Full Assemblies designed in SolidWorks

Terminologies Regarding Parts & Assemblies:

▪ Vertex – Intersection of edges or lines. Can be individually selected on Parts & Assemblies
▪ Edge – Intersection of two or more planes.
▪ Origin – Represents relative origin of coordinate system used by SolidWorks
▪ Plane – Construction Geometry used to start a sketch or a feature
▪ Face – Surface of a 3D model. Selectable Area of a model.
▪ Axis – Straight Lines representing terminal directions of modeling area.
