Social Service Worker Programs

There are four program delivery options in the Social Service Worker program. They are:

Day Program, Day Program Fast Track, Intensive and Continuing Education (CE). Highlighted differences between the programs include:

Day Program

  • Program starts in September
  • Students are not in school or placement over the summer
  • First placement is in semester 2 (Jan to Apr)
  • Second placement is carried out in semester 3 (Sept to Dec) and semester 4 (Jan to Apr)

Day Program Fast Track

  • Program starts in January
  • Student completes all 4 semesters back to back which means no break in the summer
  • First placement is a block placement where the student goes to placement four days per week in July and August.
  • Second placement is carried out in semester 3 (Sept to Dec) and semester 4 (Jan to Apr)

Intensive Program

  • Program starts in May and students complete their diploma in eight months compared to two academic years for the Day Programs
  • Admissions: Students must have a University degree in Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Education) or college diploma related to Human Services (70% guideline) or equivalent.
  • First placement is at the end of June to mid August
  • Second placement is from October to December

 Continuing Education

  • This is part-time option for students who complete one or multiple courses at a time
  • Intakes in September, January and May
  • Student still completes 600 of placements. Placement days are negotiated with the agency and placements are scheduled to happen during from May to August
