Introduction
Purpose
Welcome to the Science Communication Toolkit!
This toolkit aims to support students, early career researchers, and faculty members in developing essential science communication skills. This comprehensive toolkit provides a strong foundational knowledge base, sharing valuable insights, best practices and resources across key areas such as writing, visual communication, presentations, interpersonal communication, and the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Developed with diverse perspectives in mind, it aims to foster more effective and inclusive communication within the scientific community.
Credits & updates
The Science Communication Toolkit is an adaptation of the 30×3 Science Communication Toolkit, with updates by Aditi Gupta, Katie Harding and Sree Gayathri Talluri. Principles of Scientific Communication by Amanda Bongers and Donal Macartney, an open-source textbook, was modified to create the 30×3 Science Communication Toolkit within Brightspace at the University of Victoria by Aditi Gupta (PI) with the assistance of two graduate students – Sree Gayathri Talluri and Sajib Ghosh. It reproduced all the chapters in Principles of Scientific Communication as modules, using a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of color) lens. In this book, we have built on and updated the 30×3 Science Communication Toolkit.
The cover of this book was created by Kelly Penfold.
