7 S-M-A-R-T: Goals For Next Semester

S-M-A-R-T (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Limited)

  1. SMART goal: I will stay on top of all my classes, prioritizing difficult courses to achieve a 75%+.

Specific: I want to stay on top of my academics by notleaving any of my assignments, readings or assigned materials to the last minute, to achieve a 75%+ on all exams and assignments.

Measurable: I will track my assignments and exams with a Notion database in order to check off upcoming tasks for the semester, as well as aim to achieve above a 75% average in each of my courses.

Attainable: I will set aside 3 hours each day to review lecture notes, study and learn material, work on assignments beginning the day they were assigned. Additionally,  I will reflect each week on things I’ve learned the week to consolidate them, as well as teach-back knowledge to my friends or family members.

Relevant: By staying on top of my course materials, I will be able to prioritize courses accordingly and prevent a build up of things to do surrounding exam or assignment periods. Reducing procrastination will also result in reduced stress levels, improving confidence during exam and understand clinical associations.

Time Limited: I will accomplish this goal by the end of the Winter 2025 semester (4 months), and after each exam/ assignments I will reevaluate if things need to change in my study methods to stay on track.

2. SMART goal: I will practice and master my clinical skills over the Winter 2025 semester.

Specific: I will establish confidence and enhanced clinical skills that I will learn throughout the semester, by taking vitals, charting, creating care plans and skills associated with my level of ability/ knowledge.

Measurable: I will aim to receive positive feedback and a proficient grade from my clinical instructor on learned skills (taking vitals, charting, and creating care plans), and improve after each clinical assessment.

Attainable: I will dedicate 30-1 hour a day reviewing and practicing clinical skills, as well as booking time in the simulation labs if possible. I will also utilize that time to ask questions about my progress and potential improvements I can make for mastery.

Relevant: Spending the time to master clinical skills will not only improve my confidence on exams, but will also improve patient care once I enter into hospital and placement settings. As nursing school is one of my best chances to solidify my skills and receive feedback.

Time Limited: I will achieve this goal over the 2025 winter semester (the end of my clinical rotation) and after each learned skill/ assessment I will either reconfigure my plan or continue what I am doing, for success.
