5 Social Structures

Sagolva’s society is deeply hierarchical, with religious authority surpassing noble power:

  • Clergy (high priests, Shrine Knights) rank above secular nobility and enjoy special privileges and legal immunity.

  • Nobility are subordinate to the church and must offer tributes or “faith taxes” to maintain legitimacy and divine favor.

  • Commoners earn divine blessings through pilgrimage, donations, or serving the church. Those with magical talent may be selected by the Shrine Tower and elevated from poverty into religious service.

  • Education, magic training, and priestly instruction are fully controlled by the Shrine Tower, ensuring its monopoly over knowledge and ideology.
