This edited book has been created at Brock University, which sits in the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous people. This edited book seeks to enhance our collective understanding of safe sport and support sport stakeholders in their effort to ensure safe sport experiences for all. We hope the discussions generated by this edited book create opportunities for collaboration and partnership with Indigenous communities as they strive to provide culturally relevant – and safe – physical activity, sport, and recreation programming.

Safe Sport: critical issues and practices, 2nd Edition, includes content from the 1st edition published in 2022. The initial 2022 project was made possible with funding by the Government of Ontario and through eCampusOntario’s support of the 2021 Virtual Learning Strategy.
