26 Fill in the Blanks

Level Material
A1 Large strips of paper

On large strips of paper, write sentences (in large letters so that all students can read the sentence) keeping a blank space for students to try to fill in. Write the answer you are looking for in the back. Preferably, choose a part of the sentence that accepts several different possibilities. For example:

Go around the class eliciting possible answers:

Student A: Susan took a shower.

Teacher: Good sentence. But no, that’s not the answer I’m looking for.

Student B: Susan took the bus.

Teacher: Good. But no.

Student C: Susan took a taxi.

Teacher: Brilliant. Exactly. (show the back of the strip with the answer). Susan took a taxi. (give the strip of paper to the student who got it right and get another strip of paper with a new sentence).

When all the sentences have been completed, check who got the most sentences and announce him or her as the winner.
