22 The Pyramid Game

Level Material
All levels Cards with words, expressions, and or sentences you want your class to practice

This activity is based on the famous TV Show called “Pyramid”.

Prepare a set of cards with words, expressions, and or sentences you want your class to practice. You can have 5 to 10 different items on each card, but all of them need to be related to a certain category. For example:

Place students in groups. A member of the group comes to the front of the class and takes a card. S/he informs the category and starts giving clues (mimicking or drawing or defining the words – your choice will depend on the proficiency level of your class) for the team. The objective is for HIS/HER group to say the words or expressions or sentences in the card IN THE ORDER THEY APPEAR. If they can´t come up with the word, the student may say PASS and go to the next. If there’s time left, they can go back to the words they skipped.  They have 1 minute to get their groups to say as many of the words/expressions/sentences as they can in one minute.

Each group takes turn with a card. It is a good idea to have two cards per group so that each group gets two rounds. When the game is finished, the winning group is the one who guessed the largest number of items.
