4 Chapter 4 – Generate Alternative Solutions

GENERATE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS

What solution is best?

“Critical thinking requires us to use our imagination, seeing things from perspectives other than our own and envisioning the likely consequences of our position.”

Bell Hooks

The fourth step is to select your decision criteria and assess/evaluate the alternative solutions you generated in step three.

Your goal is to think about potential outcomes and a feasible course of action & select the best solution. This involves considering each alternative’s advantages and disadvantages (or pros and cons) and assessing its feasibility and potential outcomes.

    • Apply criteria for making sound recommendations.
    • Consider strong supporting evidence, pros, and cons.
    • Craft your recommendations.
    • Base your recommendation on the information you have.
    • Evaluate your recommendations.

Consider strong supporting evidence, pros and cons, and use case facts, leadership concepts, models, and theories to evaluate alternatives.
