Summary

Researchers simply do not have the resources to draw data from all sources, at all times, and in all places. Therefore, they must make important decisions regarding their sources. This chapter has focused on sampling methods, including the most popular probabilistic and non-probabilistic techniques. It concluded by discussing the importance of thinking about who is sampled, when, how, and for what purposes, as well as the importance of ensuring the sample actually reflects the population. The next step in the research process is to determine which data collection methods are best to help you answer you research questions. Data collection is the focus of the next chapter, Chapter 8
