Experiential Learning can take the form of co-operative education, degree work placement, clinical/field placement, fieldwork/simulation labs, capstone/applied research projects, and service learning.
Please note that while the College does not require COVID-19 vaccination, students are required to follow the policies in place at work-term/placement sites. This means that you may be required to provide proof of vaccination to your employer/placement host in order to participate in and complete your work term/placement.
Field Placements
Placements occur in a variety of settings and an interview process is used to help you select a field placement. For first year field placement, if submitted on time, student placement preferences are considered, however, not guaranteed. Traditionally, for our second year field placements, the program faculty organizes an interview day in April where students complete 5-7 interviews in a single morning in an effort to secure a second year field placement. However, this process is currently under review.
Students are permitted, and encouraged, to find their own placement agency under the guidance of the Field Placement Coordinator.
Occasionally, permission is granted for students to complete their placements at settings outside of the Toronto area.
In order to attend any field placement, students must be prepared to submit: a receipt for their Police Reference Check, Health Status/medical report, up-to-date immunization record, and a Standard First Aid – CPR & AED certificate.
The college reserves the right to not provide a placement opportunity to students who do not meet minimum behaviour and academic standards. Placement agencies can deny or terminate placement opportunities to students. A criminal record is one possible reason to deny a student a placement opportunity. A variety of inappropriate behaviours or skills may also result in the denial of a placement opportunity or
termination of a placement experience.
