Course Requirements – Course Outlines

Course outlines specify relevant course learning outcomes to be achieved and assessments that measure achievement of that learning. Course outlines also offer a general description of the course, its content, requirements, and required learning resources (e.g., textbooks, equipment/materials). Course outlines clearly communicate expectations to learners concerning requirements for admission to the course (e.g.., pre- and co-requisites), successful completion of the course, and other course-specific policies and procedures. Ensure you review the course outlines for each of your courses to be aware of requirements and expectations.

  1. At the beginning of each course, students will be informed of course learning outcomes and evaluative methods. This information will be discussed in class and is detailed on the course outline. Course outlines are available on eCentennial within your course shell.
  1. The sequence of the learning experience in the Personal Support Worker Program requires that certain courses in the model route be completed before proceeding to other courses. Promotion from course to course is governed by the prerequisites stated for the individual courses beginning in semester two. 
  1. All courses, including GNED (the General Education credit) and English courses, in the Personal Support Worker Program must be completed  with a minimum “C” grade for eligibility for graduation from the Personal Support Worker Program at Centennial College.
  1. In order to graduate from the Personal Support Worker Program all courses have to be completed including the General Education (GNED) and the English (COMM 161/162) must be completed with a minimum “C” grade.
  1. If a student is unsuccessful twice in the same “PSHS” course(s), a third repeat would require the approval of the Chair of Nursing.
  1. Promotion from course to course is governed by prerequisites stated for the individual courses. To achieve final promotion, a “C” grade is required in all courses through the program. Final promotion from the program qualifies the student for a certificate.
  1. A student who does not successfully complete any one of his/her required courses as scheduled, must contact the Success Advisor prior to registration for the next semester. Students must complete all the courses in their current semester before taking any courses in the following semester (Please refer to program model route).
  1. It is within a student’s right to drop a course, or courses, however, the student must meet with the Centennial Success Advisor(MyCA) to discuss this issue. Students must realize that registration into the dropped course(s) in the following semester is dependent available space. There is no guarantee that the student will be able to register in the dropped course(s) in the following semester. This program has a Fall and Winter intake only.  
  1. The Personal Support Worker program must be completed within a maximum of two (2) academic years from the time of initial enrolment in semester  one.
