Students Requesting Re-Entry to Program
Students Requesting Re-Entry to the Program
Reapplying After Withdrawal in Semester 1
Students who are required to withdraw from the program in Semester 1 due to academic failure must reapply through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) to be considered for re-entry.
Progression Requirements
Students are expected to demonstrate consistent growth and increased competence throughout the program. All core nursing courses in a semester must be successfully completed to progress to the next semester.
- For example: A student in Semester 2 must pass all Semester 2 core nursing courses to advance to Semester 3.
- The curriculum is scaffolded to build nursing competencies progressively, ensuring students are prepared to meet Entry-to-Practice Competencies upon graduation.
Important Information Regarding Course Failures
- If a student fails any core nursing course, all related co-requisites must also be repeated and passed before progressing.
- Students in Semester 2, 3, or 4 who are required to withdraw, take a leave of absence longer than one semester, or are terminated, must apply for re-entry through the PN Return process.
Program Completion Timeline
- Students must complete the Practical Nursing program within 2.5 years (maximum 8 academic terms) from their initial start date.
- Failure to meet this timeline will require the student to reapply to Semester 1 through OCAS and restart the program.
- Program requirements may change over time to align with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) guidelines. Students returning after a break may be required to complete additional courses to meet updated program standards.
Re-Entry Process
Students wishing to re-enter the program must submit a Notice of Intent to Return by email to: pnreturn@mohawkcollege.ca
The notice must include:
- Full name (include any name changes)
- Mohawk College student number
- Last term completed and date
- Desired return term (e.g., Fall 2025)
- List of courses to register for upon return (refer to your MAP)
- Summary of academic or non-academic work completed during the break, including dates and contacts (e.g., reintegration plan)
Deadline:
The notice must be submitted at least one semester prior to the intended return.
Example: To return in the Fall term, submit your notice by the first week of the Spring/Summer semester.
Professional Practice Re-Entry
Students requesting to return to a Professional Practice course will be placed after all regular stream students have been assigned placements.
