Know Your Rights and Responsibilities

The following policies are commonly used in the Practical Nursing Program:

 

Legislative Framework

Student rights and responsibilities are also supported by the following legislation:

  • Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
  • Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)

Special Notes for IAHS Students

  • All Mohawk College academic policies apply to IAHS students.
  • The Human Rights Policy governs all IAHS students.
  • Students must also follow the User Policy and Code of Conduct for computer and network use within any affiliated healthcare agency.

Professional Conduct and Ethics

Students in the Practical Nursing program are expected to uphold the standards and guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). This includes demonstrating the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours required for safe and ethical nursing practice.

  • Learning is expected to occur in a safe and mutually respectful environment.
  • breach of ethical behaviour—whether academic or clinical—may result in disciplinary action, including withdrawal from the program.
