Prerequisites and Corequisites
Prerequisites
Nursing courses in the program all have prerequisites, meaning students must successfully complete and pass all nurses courses in their current semester before moving on to the next semester. For example, in the Practical Nursing (715) program, before proceeding to Semester 2 students must complete and pass the following courses in Semester 1:
- Health, Healing, and the Nursing Process 1
- Practicum Lab 1
- Professional Practice 1 (Professional Practice Readiness is a prerequisite for Professional Practice 1)
- Professional Development 1
- PN Structure and Function of the Human Body
Corequisites
Nursing courses in the program also have corequsities, meaning courses that must be taken and passed at the same time. The following courses are considered corequisites and must be taken together and passed within the same semester:
- Health, Healing, and the Nursing Process
- Practicum Lab
- Professional Practice
Corequisite courses must be:
- Completed concurrently (at the same time) within the same semester
- Passed with a minimum grade of 60% or all course requirements met
If a student fails or withdraws from any of the corequisite courses, they are required to retake all corequisite courses together in the same semester before progressing to the next term.
In addition:
- All General Education courses must be completed before entering Semester 4.
- All courses listed in the Program of Study (POS)—including both nursing and non-nursing courses—must be successfully completed before beginning the Pre-Graduate Experience in Semester 4.
