Accessible Learning Services

Accessible Learning Services

Mohawk College’s Accessible Learning Services (ALS) works in collaboration with students, faculty, and support staff to identify and implement strategies that ensure equitable access to education. Services are available to students at all campuses and are designed to support individual learning needs and academic success.

Who Should Contact ALS?

  • Registered students or confirmed applicants who have a disability or suspect they may have a disability are encouraged to contact ALS as early as possible.
  • Early contact is especially important if services such as Sign Language InterpretersComputerized Note Takers, or alternative format learning resources (e.g., Braille, audio) are required.

Testing and Study Support

  • The IAHS Testing Centre is located in Room 139 and includes quiet study space for students registered with ALS.

Clinical and Field Placement Accommodations

  • Clinical Accommodations

All accommodation requests must be made in advance to the Accessible Learning Services department, who will determine what, if any, accommodation is appropriate. Course instructors, clinical supervisor and invigilators will not grant any additional or informal accommodation. A separate accommodation letter is required for clinical accommodations.

    Students requiring clinical accommodations:

    • You are required to identify yourself at the beginning of the semester (or as early as possible) to Accessibility Learning Services. A review of procedures and facilitation of communication by your case manager with necessary members of the nursing department will then take place.
    • Visit Mohawk College’s Field and Clinical Placement Accommodation Guide for more details.
