Know Your Rights and Responsibilities

The following policies and procedures are also summarized in the Mohawk College Student Handbook:

Student rights and responsibilities are also identified within the following pieces of government legislation:

  • the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Mohawk College has developed several policies and procedures designed to provide and support an enriching and rewarding learning experience in which the rights of individuals are respected. 

Any records, documents and other material containing information directly related to a student, which are maintained by the college, will be treated as confidential information subject to any provisions or exemptions in the legislation. 

Special notes pertaining to IAHS students:
  • Mohawk College’s academic policies will apply to IAHS students.
  • Mohawk’s Human Rights Policy will govern IAHS students.
  • User Policy, Code for Computer and Network Users within any agency nursing students have experience with will apply to students at the IAHS.

You are responsible for your actions at all times. Ignorance of the rules, regulations and standards of conduct will not be accepted as a defense against disciplinary action.

The nursing program works on the assumption that each student has made a commitment to identifying, exploring, developing and exhibiting the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours consistent with those identified within the College of Nurses of Ontario’s standards and guidelines. 

It is an expectation of the Program that learning will take place in a safe and mutually respectful environment.

CODES OF ETHICS

A breach in ethical behaviour (either in the academic or clinical portions of the Program) will result in disciplinary action up to an including that the student be required to withdraw from the Program (See Academic Integrity Policy #SS-3203 on MyMohawk).
