Health & Safety General Safety

  1. For emergencies in the lab or on campus, call 911 and dial 88 from a McMaster telephone for the security/emergency medical response team. If dialing from a Mohawk College telephone (all offices have Mohawk phones), dial 905-525-9140 ext. 24281.
  2. Do not attempt to do anything which you feel is unethical, unsafe or beyond your capacity. If this concern arises during your lab courses, contact the appropriate course faculty for clarification and guidance.
  3. During lab courses, follow the policies and procedures provided. To protect yourself and others, a College incident form must be filled out when any incident occurs. A copy of any incident report occurring in the PPC lab must be provided to Program Coordinator.
  4. Prevent the spread of infection. Wash your hands often and thoroughly. Hand disinfectant is available in all lab and simulation spaces.
  5. During COVID, face masks and shields must be donned before entering the PPC.
  6. Wipe down all mannequins, equipment, and surfaces at the end of the lab. Special mannequin wipes are in blue packages at the bedside. Use tub wipes for beds and equipment.
  7. During COVID, bed curtains should remain tied up.
  8. Students may not leave backpacks, bags, or any articles of value in the PPC. There are designated lockers available if they do not have their own locker. During COVID, there are tables available in each space for backpacks.
  9. Footwear must be fully enclosed toe and heel and tight-fitting, i.e., running or nursing shoes.
  10. Every student is responsible for keeping the lab area clean and safe for themselves and others.
