Attendance
Face-to-face/Remote Delivery
Due to the experiential and collaborative nature of the learning in this program, and to maximize student success in completion of course objectives, attendance is an expectation at all scheduled sessions. The Practical Nursing program is intensive and as such it is essential for students to attend and participate in all learning activities. You should consider this program to be a priority, and balance it accordingly with other activities in your life, such as employment etc.
All course hours are mandatory. This includes face-to-face lectures, synchronous remote delivery of lectures (Zoom, Teams), laboratory sessions, tutorials, site visits and professional practice placements.
You may be required to attend classes/events/professional practice that are scheduled from Mondays to Fridays between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Some classes/events may need to take place outside of regularly scheduled time slots, for example on Saturday or Sunday.
Absences make it difficult to assess your progress and will impact your ability to participate in group work activities that are evaluated in class. If illness or an emergency necessitates an absence, the student is required to contact each course instructor/tutor immediately with reasons stated so that the absence and information is recorded.
Absences may necessitate review with Academic Advisor or course faculty. Therefore, it is strongly advised that students do not take vacation during the academic year. As well, it is also advisable that students keep themselves available for at least two weeks after each semester in case there is a need for completion of missed work or unsuccessful components. Students are expected to consult with their classmates for any missed class content.
Punctuality is a professional behaviour that is also expected of students. Chronic lateness will not be tolerated as it is disruptive and also affects the learning of others. Chronic lateness will be reflected in your course evaluations.
Professional Practice
Attendance at all scheduled clinical experience is MANDATORY. Refer to Section 4: Professional Practice Placements for more details.
