Experiential Learning Requirements
Sample student post on IG for Storyworks client: Council of PR Firms, 2021
Experiential Learning “supports students in gaining hands-on learning that helps them transition to employment”[1]. Experiential Learning can take the form of co-operative education, degree work placement, clinical/field placement, fieldwork/simulation labs, capstone/applied research projects, and service learning.
Students complete a Storyworks course in second semester where they work with a real client, introduced to them in Semester 1. Students develop a real communications strategy and plan, present to client and execute plan. Check out @Centennial_CCPR on Twitter or @Centennial_PR on Instagram for samples of student work. The client assesses the students’ final product(s).
At the end of Semester 2 courses, students complete an 8-week Field Placement. A list of employers is provided: agency, corporate, government and non-profit. Students must report to a mid-senior level communications professional. The Supervisor’s Assessment makes up 70% of the student’s final grade for Field Placement. Students are also required to do a Learning Plan and weekly Learning Journals.
