Student Responsibilities
It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the Training and Discipline Standards of the Police Foundations program. Please review and conduct yourself in a manner that complies with these standards.
- It is your responsibility to keep track of significant dates (e.g., registration, dropping courses, fee deadlines, application for graduation) and to ensure you understand College policies and procedures.
- It is your responsibility to ensure you are meeting all program requirements, including English and General Education courses. You can monitor your progress by conducting an audit on My.Centennial.
- You must track your own progress in the program and be aware of all incomplete and missing courses. Keep your assignments to demonstrate you have achieved the program outcomes.
- You are responsible to familiarize yourself with College Policies and Procedures available on My.Centennial
- If a student wishes to appeal an assigned grade, please refer to the College Grade Appeal Policy.
- It is your responsibility to retain all course outlines for the purpose of applying for transfer credit to other educational institutions.
The Rules.
Still applies in the pandemic:
- Respect for others ideas. It is inconsiderate not to listen to the person who is speaking and impolite to interrupt and talk when someone else is speaking in the classroom. It is important to avoid side conversations and interruptions.
- Respectful communication. “Put downs, insulting and disrespectful comments are neither acceptable nor permitted within our classrooms. It is acceptable to disagree with the opinions of others; it’s NOT acceptable to hurt those you disagree with.
APPEARANCE
Suspended for F2021
Students must report to class in FULL and COMPLETE UNIFORM. Any student who fails to comply will be required to leave the class and not to return until dressed correctly.
Police Foundations Training and Discipline Standards
- Every student who is accepted into the Police Foundations program at Centennial College MUST
adhere to the following rules of training, discipline and good order.
- Uniforms must be worn in all Police Foundation core courses, Monday through Friday. With prior arrangement, teachers may permit students to attend class in Court dress-business attire.
- Uniforms must be clean, neat and tidy, appropriately tailored and pants hemmed. Ties are now optional and are not required to be worn with the uniform.
- Black socks must be worn with the uniform.
- Police regulation haircuts for male students (hair cut above the ears and off the collar).
- Female students with long hair to be tied back (hair should be cut or tied back above the collar).
- Male students to be clean shaven or have police regulation beards.
- Minimal jewelry but no chains, studs or hoop earrings, No facial piercings.
- Minimal use of fragrance products as per the College Scent Reduced protocol.
- Students will not wear their hair in the following styles;( male ponytails), Samurai topknot, Mohican, braids, cornrows, dreadlocks, faux hawk (fohawk), multicoloured/neon dyed hair, hair sculptures in any shape or form.
- Court dress-business attire – definition: Females – business suit (slacks or skirt) with blouse or sweater, dress shoes, alternatively, a dress and dress shoes. Males – shirt and tie, dress shoes, alternatively suit or sports jacket, shirt and tie, dress shoes.
- All fitness apparel will consist of black Centennial T-shirt and black shorts
Faculty Expectations
- The Police Foundations program faculty expect you to comply with the guidelines outlined in this Student Handbook and the Student guide to Dispute Resolution policy and Procedures document. We believe that students and faculty are both “works in progress” and that no one is perfect. We welcome appropriate feedback given at appropriate times.
