Objective

The objective of this experiment is to simulate gravitational lensing on a benchtop using acrylic lenses. The lenses have been machined to emulate the optical behaviour of point masses and, more realistically, isothermal gas clouds. Students will determine the ‘mass’ of the lens using three commonly used techniques. Please use the following texts as references: [1], [2], [3], [5].
