Objective

The objective of this experiment is to simulate gravitational lensing on a benchtop using acrylic lenses. The lenses have been machined to emulate the optical behaviour of point masses and, more realistically, isothermal gas clouds. Students will measure the emulated mass of the lenses using strong gravitational lensing.
