Data Analysis

  1. Show a plot of your angular velocity measurements as a function of the initial angular momentum for the 3⁄8” magnet. Fit the plot with a straight line. Use the slope to determine the rotational inertia of the system.
  2. Compare your measured value of the rotational inertia to the accepted value. What does this tell you about the conservation of angular momentum in this system?
  3. Show one of your scope traces that looks most like the blackhole merger in Figure 3. Label the inward spiral, merger, and ringdown sections of the scope trace.
