Laser Beam Profile
Warning
This experiment requires a nonlinear fit, and so using Python for this analysis is almost mandatory. You will need to be able to quantitatively discuss the quality of a least-squares fit for the report. It is suggested that you do this experiment after reading week.
This is a very hands-on experiment. The optical components that form the beam expander need to be moved around the table, bolted in, adjusted, and readjusted. The reward is a well-aligned, Gaussian-profiled laser beam that could be used to perform high-precision spectroscopy. Be patient and take your time aligning the optical components. Make sure the beam is going through the center of each lens you insert. Make sure you are checking and rechecking your alignment.
