Exercise 1: Defining Directions in Rotational Motion
1. Observe the rotation of the IOLab unit (the red box) and answer these questions.
a) In what direction is the axis of the rotation?
b) Look at the photograph below which shows the face of the IOLab. The unit has a defined coordinate system with the origin at the centre of the box. (Look just above the IOLab logo.) In what direction is the rotation axis in its coordinate system?
c) What is the direction of ω for the following time intervals: 0 to 2s, 2 to 4s, 4 to 6s and 6 to 9s?
