Chapter 4: Good Day / Bad Day

An excellent way to learn more about a person is to use a Good Day / Bad Day Chart. The chart is simple, but the content is rich! Image divided into two panels, with 'Good Day' featuring a smiling sun on a blue striped background, and 'Bad Day' showing a gloomy cloud with raindrops on a similar background.

Person Centered Plan Task

Create a Good Day / Bad Day Chart with your focus person.

Once created:

  1. Update their One Page Profile with important information discovered with this tool.
  2. Ask these questions: a) Look first at all of what makes a good day for you.  Is there anything you or others could do to have more of what is on your list or for it to happen more often? b) Now look at your bad day list.  Is there anything that you or others could do to prevent some of those things from happening or make them happen less often? c) Make notes about what you want to do or what others could help you with to have more good days and fewer bad days.
  3. Record notes for actions.  These will become possible goals for the person in their Person-Centered Plan.
  4. See the example of Friday Knights’ Good Day / Bad Day Chart below.

A comparison list titled 'Good day' and 'Bad day' for a dog named Friday Knight Love. Under 'Good day,' activities are listed such as spending lots of time with mom, play ball, get a new bone to chew, and exploring new places. 'Bad day' includes being left alone, mom working past 5 pm, not getting a new bone to chew, and having to go to bed early. Each list is accompanied by an illustration of a happy dog on the 'Good day' side and a sad dog on the 'Bad day' side.
