School and Program Policies

Centennial College policies apply to staff, faculty and students.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS ALL COURSES
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
All courses adhere to the College’s policies and procedures. Students must familiarize themselves and adhere to the Student Code of Conduct policy. Students must learn and comply with the Academic Honesty and Plagiarism policy.
Students are strongly encouraged to read through Centennial College Policies and Procedures. Students are strongly encouraged to attend classes. Courses are designed to have evaluative methods and group work assignments. In avoiding these, students may fail to show appropriate competencies and to meet the learning outcomes; thereby jeopardizing their academic standing. Students are responsible for their own learning, keeping track of their degree audit and use all the
resources made available to them. This includes but not limited to the following:

  • Review course material and information posted on course shells, before and after class.
  • Reach out the faculty for clarification of concepts.
  • Connect with peer tutors and learning strategists to seek academic support.
  • Make use of practice labs where applicable.
  • Submit CASS requests to meet with the student success advisor or meet with them in-person during
    drop-in sessions.
  • Take measures to seek support for academic accommodation in a timely manner.
  • Students must be professional in their written communication with faculty and staff. This includes:
Use College email address and create an email signature for official communications that identifies their
full name, student ID, program and semester. This allows faculty and staff to quickly identify the
students to provide timely support. Use respectful language and be concise in their request. Expect that response to emails may take up to 3 business days.

Police Record Check Requirement

A “Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector” screening needs to be completed prior to placement/clinical and then repeated every 6 months. All police record checks must be done within the region where you live at a local police department. Vulnerable person means a person who, because of their age, a disability or other circumstance, whether temporary or permanent, are (a) in a position of dependence on others or (b) are otherwise at greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position of authority or trust relative to them. Students who have a ‘positive’ police record check, may be denied placement by the agency and will therefore, not be able to complete the fieldwork placement. Successful completion of all clinical placements is a requirement for promotion and graduation.

Immunization Review Form

Ontario legislation specifies certain surveillance requirements for those entering into a practice setting. In order to comply with the Public Hospitals Act, other legislation and to meet the placement settings requirements, an Immunization Review form must be completed in its entirety and submitted, before the commencement of practical courses. Students who do not have a family doctor can have this form completed at a “Walk-In” Clinic.
