Program Requirements

Information on Grading, Promotion and Completion

  1. A minimum “C” grade is required for successful completion of all courses within the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant Program, including English (COMM), and General Education (GNED) courses.
  2. All OTPT code courses taken in the present semester must be successfully completed for promotion to the next semester, as identified on the model route.
  3. The following clinical fieldwork courses have dual means of evaluation. To successfully pass these courses, the student must achieve a minimum ‘C’ grade (60%) in the theory components, and a “Satisfactory” for their overall performance at their assigned placement site.
  • OTPT201 – Orientation to Rehabilitation Practice (Introductory)
  • OTPT301 – Rehabilitation Practice 1 (Intermediate)
  • OTPT401 – Rehabilitation Practice 2 (Internship 1 & 2)

In compliance with Accreditation Standards, each student must achieve the following hours at a clinical setting.

  • Clinical/fieldwork education includes a minimum of 500 hours in the clinical setting.
  • Clinical/fieldwork education includes no less than 30% (150 hrs) of the total time in OTA.
  • Clinical/fieldwork education includes no less than 30% (150 hrs) of the total time in OTA.
  1. The following courses are divided into theory and lab components and evaluated separately. To successfully pass these courses, the student must achieve a minimum ‘C’ grade (60%) in the final practical and have a minimum overall average of 60% in both practical and theory components. As well, students must achieve a minimum of 85% in all lab competencies.
  • OTPT104 – Normal Function and Movement
  • OTPT204 – Introduction to Physiotherapy Interventions – Therapeutic Exercises
  • OTPT206 – Occupational Therapy Therapeutic Skills – Part 1
  • OTPT303 – Physiotherapy Skills – Therapeutic Modalities
  • OTPT304 – Occupational Therapy Therapeutic Skills – Part 2
  1. If a student is unsuccessful in one or more “OTPT” course, the student will be placed on conditional academic status. In order to repeat the failed course, the student should make an appointment to see the success advisor and complete an ADD/DROP form for submission.
  • If unsuccessful in any OTPT courses, the student must retake that course and any co-requisites required as indicated on their Model Route and may request to retake the failed course(s) in the following year when the course(s) are offered.

Course Requirements – Course Outlines

Course outlines specify relevant course learning outcomes to be achieved and assessments that measure achievement of that learning. Course outlines also offer a general description of the course, its content, requirements, and required learning resources (e.g., textbooks, equipment/materials). Ensure you review the course outlines for each of your courses to be aware of requirements and expectations.
