Stop Two – Rationale & The Plan

Rationale

The premise of Trip Preparedness Professional development opportunity is that you (and co-leaders) have visited the site you are taking students to before the trip is scheduled. If you are working with a third party, they will undertake the same process. These are community trips through service organizations, NGOs,  school trips, near and afar, day and overnight (and international), include sporting events, school clubs and extracurricular activities for both elementary and secondary school teachers and other educational institutions and for own personal trips.

The Trip Preparedness template is the initial, visual or “infomercial” overview of the excursion. It engages the various audiences: students, parents, administrators, the community (police and paramedic) and third party providers. This preliminary presentation/product should be more than 10 slides and less than 25. The length is dependent on the length and complexity of the trip. For example, sporting events or nearby trips will have fewer slidesThere is a difference in the detail for going to an event when compared with overnight or international.

This product will include crucial map links (on the first slide or page)  purpose or curriculum links  and activities, communication protocol, risk management identification and mitigation photos, emergency procedures (mustering points) and personnel details (student names and photos). TP complements, though does not replace, existing policies and guidelines.

The template provides guides/leaders and teachers with a planning process and there are exemplary examples to follow.  (Please spend time looking at the examples within STOP TWO.

The intended presentation product informs as an “infomercial” and embodies what it means to commence “due diligence” as trip planners, educators, and supervisors of school trips. Having consistency of risk mitigation and management planning across the province is a goal and can be attained through this micro-credential training.

This template is based on extensive research and years of experiential delivery, as well as being recommended by many.   There is commitment and satisfaction when completing a detailed trip plan.
