STEP 1 – STATEMENT OF INTENT
The first step in developing new undergraduate or graduate programs at McMaster University is for the proposing department to submit a Statement of Intent found under the Program Proposals tab. The purpose of this document is to provide broad consultation with all necessary personnel through a brief overview and rationale of the proposed program. The Statement of Intent must be endorsed by the Department Chair and Faculty Dean before it proceeds to the Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning for undergraduate programs, or the Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies for new graduate program proposals. In the case of interdisciplinary programs, it is essential to have appropriate discussions with the respective Dean(s) and Chair(s). Once this form is endorsed and received by the IQAP office, the departments may proceed to completing the New Program Proposal template where they will provide an in-depth description of all aspects of the program.
STEP 2 – RESOURCE IMPLICATIONS AND FINANCIAL VIABILITY OF PROGRAMS TEMPLATE
In collaboration with your Faculty, Director of Administration and the Associate Vice President, Academic Planning and Finance, or their delegate, ensure that the University Resource Implications and Financial Viability of the proposed Undergraduate or Graduate program have been thoroughly discussed and approved.
STEP 3 – COMPLETING THE PROPOSAL DOCUMENT
The New Program Proposal template is structured to correspond with the evaluation criteria outlined in the Academic Program Development and Review Policy
In the subsequent sections 1 to 7, notes have been included that offer clarification and further information on the types of evidence required to complete the proposal.
Where applicable, guidance is also provided on available resources and to assist with the retrieval or interpretation of the necessary information required.
