Values

Below are sets of values personal to me and are also a reflection of nursing, grounded in the belief that healthcare is and should be a relational, human-centered practice. Each value emphasizes the importance of treating the whole person and highlights how my personal qualities will guide my nursing practice. Compassion, kindness, resilience, and accountability are not just values but practices  I aim to embody in every aspect of my professional career.

Compassion: I will strive to treat every patient I encounter with empathy, seek to understand their individual needs and offer care that nurtures both their physical, mental and spiritual state. In my view, compassionate care involves establishing deeper connection with a patient’s mental, emotional and not just the physical state. Hence, I will attempt to inculcate reassurance, comfort measures and support the emotions of my patients in my practice as a nurse. Compassion will be the driving force that will allow me go beyond my clinical routines into establishing more meaningful interactions with my patients thereby living a lasting impression of our encounter in the hearts and minds of my patients.

Kindness: I will attempts to approach every individual I come across with maximum respect and be affable, among others as this act have the tendency to uplift, heal and create a conducive atmosphere for care practices. I personally believe that kindness is about creating an impactful and supportive relationships with colleagues and patients alike which goes beyond just being polite and nice. Through a simple act of smile, moments of active listening or an act of therapeutic silence goes a long way to help people deal with their causes of stress. I also believe that actions like a simple act of kindness if done consistently will have a positive impact on people especially my patients and colleagues with whom I will interact with. This intend help to create a conducive atmosphere of healing and compassion.

Resilience: I believe this is an important value which is quite relevant in nursing. it is one the will help me navigate the high demands and challenges associated with my job or life circumstances. To this, I will strive to adopt and maintain strength both physically and mentally, view my challenges as means of personal and professional growth while giving off my best in caring for the needs of my patients and people around me. I will commit to staying true to this value as this will help me maintain a calm and thoughtful demeanor under intense pressure. The experiences gained from such difficult situations will help in improving my skills needed to survive the changes that arises in healthcare. I will be aware of my limit and seek help when needed to avoid any burnout that will arise of being resilient.

Accountability: I will strive to take responsibility for my action, use evidence-based practice in ensuring that patient receives the best care possible while also striving to upload a high standard of care in my nursing practice. Accountability I believe is key in nursing as it ensure patients safety and improve quality of care if the principles are practiced by the key actors in healthcare practice. Accountability gives the opportunity to take responsibility hence it is important to take full responsibility for my actions in decision making and care giving. Which means holding up for my mistakes, learning and striving to do better. It involves also upholding the code of conduct and ethical standard in nursing, ensuring that my patients trust me to act in their best interest always. I hope to inspire trust and confidence in the team I work with and patients alike.
