GDE/PME 811 – Innovation in Teaching and Learning.

This course provides a foundational grounding for innovation in teaching and learning.  At its best, innovation is rooted in an ethical framework of action, builds upon past practices and ideas, and is situated within one’s personal and biographical narrative.  The modules in this course seek to prepare the learner to innovate within their professional context.

The overall learning objectives for GDE/PME 811 are as follows:

  • Develop a personal glossary of  terms that include innovation, teaching, and learning, so that the terms used are clearly defined and meaningfully articulated
  • Build a personal narrative wherein innovative practice can take root
  • Explore  historical thinking as a way of exploring past practices
  • Consider the importance of philosophy and philosophical thinking as means of articulating an ethically defensible vision for innovative action
  • Engage in a public forum to explore and reflect upon innovative ideas within their broader context
  • Relate principles of Indigenous knowledge to the area of innovation, teaching, and learning
  • Explore the ways in which concepts of gender, ethnicity, race, and other elements of difference intersect in the practice of innovation in teaching and learning
  • Engage in continued reflection to explore innovative ideas through a lens of equity and inclusion
