GDE/PME 852: International Education in a Globalized World
This course invites the learner to explore existing K-12 international expatriate schools to understand the evolution of this form of schooling in the 20th and early 21st centuries. These schools and their support networks have developed influenced by and interwoven with globalization. Their histories, aims, and impacts manifest some of the unresolved tensions of globalization. As such, these schools provide excellent case study material for educational professionals seeking to understand the impact of globalization on their profession. These schools also provide sites for action to educate young people about globalization critically and to pursue sustainable development goals. While one could access these topics purely academically and theoretically, this course is designed to introduce participants to the practical efforts and programs of existing K-12 international expatriate schools.
