Authorial Biography – Michael Quartermain
With over four decades of collective business and leadership experience to his credit, Michael is a proven expert in the field of business and education. Since 2019, he has taught at Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, in the strategic global business management post-graduate program, teaching topics ranging from business performance management and e-commerce to sustainability. Michael is interested in business, sustainability, and business leaders’ role in ensuring a sustainable future. He was part of a Conestoga team that developed and delivered Canada’s first Carbon Literacy training program, approved by the Carbon Literacy Project.
Michael pursued a formal education, beginning at York University, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce (2005), Osgoode Hall Law School at York University Master of Laws in alternative dispute resolution (2010), and University of Waterloo Master of Peace and Conflict Studies (2017). He has recently completed a Post-Secondary Teaching Certificate through Conestoga College. In addition to his academic credentials, he holds several related certifications, including supply chain management (CSCMP), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, dispute resolution (QMed.), project management (CAPM), management and administration (CMgr.) and International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management recognition.
Michael has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business education. Mr. Quartermain is also included in the prestigious 2023 Marquis Who’s Who Biographical Registry.
His recent publications include his 2020 articles in Supply Chain e-connect Magazine, “Supply Chain; Vulnerability, Visibility, and Value, Supply Chain Canada.” As well as “Conestoga College, teaching the leaders of tomorrow” in Cambridge Chamber Spectrum magazine and “Teaching for Tomorrow: Evolving Practices for the 21st Century.”
Michael has previously volunteered as a board member of the Ontario Institute of Supply Chain Canada from 2016 to 2020 and as a Mackenzie Health (York Central Hospital) board member from 2011 to 2014. He recently volunteered as a judge for the DECA regional case competition.
Michael largely attributes his success to his supportive family and leaders in the field who mentored him throughout his professional growth. He believes the best way to test your knowledge is to teach it to someone else! From this perspective, he is particularly proud of his work at Conestoga College and of sharing his knowledge and experience with students to shape future industry leaders. In the coming years, Mr. Quartermain looks forward to continuing his learning journey and developing his skills as an educator.
