HIST-2091H: The History of Childhood
Instructor: Jennine Hurl-Eamon
Course Code: HIST 2091
When Taken: Fall 2023
This course was fun, and it was nice to lighten the coursework burden by taking a second year course (with its far shorter reading and writing expectations). I enjoyed the content in the lectures and readings. The information, while not necessarily novel, assisted me in understanding broader trends in children’s history. The seminars were similarly enjoyable as it offered an opportunity to compare eras of children’s history in order to determine differences and similarities as time passed.
The research project for this course involved interviewing one of my family members regarding their childhood. Ethics approval restrictions do not allow for public dispersal. While the family history I learned was not new to me, the process of conducting interviews on history was. This process was very fun, and I hope to use the methodology demonstrated in this project in my future research projects.
