I really did not jive with this class. Every week we looked at a seemingly unconnected event within Canadian history. It felt like learning for the sake of collecting facts, rather than trying to answer a question, or establish a theme. It also was my first bad mark in university. I had written an article critique, that I had worked for a lot of hours on, and got a very mediocre grade. I ended up re-writing the assignment, and it was all fine, but this class kind of shook meĀ a little. I was a kid who had liked school, been pretty good at it, and university had really felt like my place, so it was really jarring to just dislike this class so strongly. It was not like my dislike of my history class which I had thought was too hard and a bit dull, but rather this class felt pointless. I did okay grade wise in the end, my lowest grade, but still a respectable 79%, and I learned that every class is not for me. I also learned how to read a syllabus before committing to a course, as my issue with this class, and since a few other classes that I have swapped out, is when they have no clear theme or question which they aim to answer.
