Section One: The Fundamentals
A) What do we know about sport? What are common assumptions we make about sport and society?
Exercise 3: Notebook prompt
What are some other metanarratives about sport that you are familiar with? Find an image or video clip or draw something yourself that captures this idea…
So what? Why does any of this matter? Does it matter? As something we grow up with – live with – play through – we don’t often interrogate the meanings of sport, and perhaps we don’t want to.
But being aware of these assumptions and metanarratives is especially important, I would argue, because of the centrality of sport to our everyday lives, the role that sport plays in shaping our childhood and worldviews and….. [finish that thought]
| Familiar metanarrative of sport the reason behind the narrative:
The character narrative of sport is the metanarrative recognized in my daily life. The type of metanarrative allows players to build identity and acknowledgement about themselves. Players are able to build teamwork and integrity about themselves. The audiences are able to observe personality of the player and root for the player during the sports game. Christiano ronaldo is a perfect example of how sport builds character of a person. The soccer fans know him as one of the greatest soccer players of all time. Christiano made a name for himself by achieving multiple goals and carrying the team to the football league. His personality is known throughout the world and gain massive followers on social media. I personally believe the character narrative does matter on the lives of the individuals. The narrative matters the most toward individuals with passion for sports. Sport is a type of activity that has a huge influence on a person’s life from childhood to adult life.

Exercise 6:
What are the implications of bodies-at-risk discourse and the refusal to understand the health gap from a social justice perspective, according to the authors of this article?
|
The implication of the bodies-at-risk discourse looks at the individual’s responsibilities of their health. The person takes full accountability of the physical and mental healthcare in their lives. However, the issues lie on how society completely ignores the environmental factor around a person’s healthcare. The social determinant of health looks at an individual health care barrier or access based on race, ethnicity, class, gender and safety.
